Capacity Assessment of COD and Nitrogen compounds with STOAT
Task
The sewage treatment plant of “BASF Schwarzheide” GmbH has been rebuilt in the years 2011/2012.
The task consisted of determining the treatment capacity of COD and nitrogen compounds for the plant.
Concept
For this purpose, different operating models by means of dynamic simulation were considered. The software package “STOAT “ (Sewage Treatment Operation and Analysis over Time) from the Water “Research Centre plc” in “Swindon / UK”, was used.
For calibration purposes different, practice-relevant scenarios were defined. The scenarios varied in the number of activated sludge and secondary clarifier size.
A total of eight system configurations were investigated and charged in different loads of various ammonium and COD loads. In addition to this, weaknesses were identified in respect to the treatment efficiency of the plant and new proposals for an optimised management were presented.
