Birkenstein Innodrain
Goal
A solution was needed for storm water drainage for the community of; "Dahlwitz-Hoppegarten" in "Birkenstein".The existing road was of 5.5 meters width with a planned pedestrian walk of 1.5 meters.
The maximal flow, set by the local authorities, allowed to discharge into the river was of 5l /(s*ha). In order to achieve the permitted flow, a storage area quipped with a throttle discharge was scheduled to be implemented. The inconvenient high cost of the retention basin along with unavailability of free space within the site necessitated alternative solutions.
Planning and Execution
The solution of the above mentioned problem consisted in implementing swales and deep bedded Retention Trench systems (INNODRAIN). They were designed by "Ingenieurgesellschaft Sieker mbH" and implemented by "Mall Beton GmbH" with support from "AIF".
The main challenges consisted not only in allocating the proposed measures in the limited available space within the streetscape but also in having a sustainable system that generates an optimal water quality , keeping in mind the traffic calming measures and vehicular circulation within the site.
