INNODRAIN®

The Green Island

The INNODRAIN system is designed for drainage and treatment of road runoff. The space-saving structure is a combination of a biologically active soil zone incorporated within a concrete frame (deep bed). Underlying a retention area, it corresponds to a compact swale-trench-system element. This system is a combined seepage-retention-drainage system, which becomes vital with difficult soil conditions. The main system components are the percolation, topsoil and retention zones. Linked to an adjustable throttles discharge, outflow is regulated depending on the dimensioning criteria. Furthermore, due to the throttled discharge, it is possible to connect the outflow to a stormwater pipe network.

Concrete deep bedded swale

Depending on the soil type and hydrological conditions, the dimensions of the infiltration system are to be calculated. The product range includes different deep bedded INNODRAIN elements with widths varying from (1.2 m to 2.3 m). Thereby it is possible in a narrow street clearance.

The standard element, having a width of 1.8 meters, corresponds to a car park lane. The minimum length resulting from the installation of a two end-face elements is of 4.0 meters, which can be extended by components of 2.0 meters length. The flexibility of this system offers a possibility of implementation, along the road longitudinal gradient (slope ≤ 5%), as a cascade.

It is either installed in the road or integrated within the streetscape, thus managing runoff at source. In most cases of residential streets, when INNONDRAIN is built in the road, it has an important traffic calming function.

The concrete elements are frost and de-icing-salt resistant. They are available in gray and earth brown colors.

Deep beds implementation

The Location of deep beds depends on the street topography, drainage area and is limited to roadways/circulation constraints. It is important to note that, information on traffic characteristics is vital in selecting the appropriate location. In addition to road space availability, necessary circulation data including; traffic volume, speed, direction and percentage of trucks or other large vehicles is needed.

Deep beds planting

Deep beds are densely planted with shallow-rooted ground covers and small shrubs. The selected plants must be flood and drought resistant. Fulfilling an appropriate plant selection considering environmental, growing requirements, function and aesthetics, requires the involvement of landscape architects.

Inlets

Rainfall surface runoff is diverted to the deep bed via designated inlets.

Emergency overflow

The deep bed has an emergency overflow (DN 200), operating with a flow baffle principle and directing excess waters into the underlying storage body.

Underground storage body

Under the deep bed element, storage spaces are provided. These spaces could be Porous concrete (Cavi-Sickerkammern, Fa. Mall), gravel filled trench or synthetic plastic chamber. They take up the excess water and differ, by means of execution, in the effective storage volume.

Control and throttle shafts

For inspection and maintenance, mostly of storage body, control manholes are provided. Depending on the implemented depth and required outcomes, the shaft diameter can be selected to perform the relevant needed operation.
